Healthy Ageing & Longevity

Life expectancy in the UK is currently 85 years for men and 88 years for women. However, health expectancy or the number of years you have before you develop a serious illness that requires medical intervention is only 63 years. That’s a huge gap! Being sick as you age is not an inevitable part of ageing. We have no control over our life-span but we do have control over our health-span!

In the UK most people die from “noncommunicable” disease – this simply means diseases which are not caused by an infectious organism.  Heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia are the leading causes of death in the UK.  These are generally diseases that you develop over time and live with for many years in ill-health.  Almost half of the UK population (45.7% of men and 50.1% of women) reported having a long-standing health problem.  No wonder our health system is overwhelmed by demand!

Modern medicine and innovative surgery enables us to replace body parts and to treat many diseases.  Nevertheless, allopathic medicine and pharmaceutical drugs cannot stop the inevitable decline of health as we age.  The overuse of pharmaceutical drugs especially as we age which generally only treat symptoms increases our risks of side effects, which further compound ill-health.

Have you been told you are pre-diabetic, diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a fatty liver?  Are you overwhelmed – you are trying to lose weight and trying to “get healthy” and not getting anywhere?  Are you confused by the “advice” on social media?

If you want to have a healthy long life, making changes to your diet and lifestyle makes common sense.  Because that enables you to be the very best version of yourself. As you age, it is not inevitable that you must develop the diseases of old age.
