Digestion

Having a healthy digestive system is at the very root of our health and wellbeing.  Eating a great diet that is comprised of real, unprocessed foods is a great start, but some people have problems with their digestion and wellbeing despite of a relatively good diet.

Do you have problems with your digestive health, and these have not been solved by your GP or medical Drs?  Or, despite extensive testing you are no closer to a solution?

I work with patients who have a number of digestive conditions, some of which allopathic (standard western medicine) doesn’t have a solution for and others we can work alongside your medical treatment programme.

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel disease / IBD (crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, microcytic ort lymphocytic colitis)
  • chronic constipation / diverticular disease
  • diarrhoea
  • Indigestion / reflux/ hiatus hernia

My approach is to understand the root-cause issue to enable us to use a personal, individualised approach to healing.  This will involve exploring your medical / health history in depth, reviewing your current diet, and what you have tried before and developing a road map going forward with a  personalised plan of action involving changes to your diet and lifestyle.

I may recommend further testing to better understand what is going on, and to enable me to make specific recommendations for appropriate supplements.

These tests may include simple, at home tests (stomach acid production, transit time test) or in-depth function testing  for SIBO or colon health (organic acid testing, GI Effects).

I offer appointment packages which gives you the support that you need to your goals.

FAQ — Digestion & Digestive Health

Nutritional therapy can support a broad range of digestive concerns, including bloating, gas, constipation, loose stools or diarrhoea, acid reflux, indigestion, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and food sensitivities. By identifying root causes — such as dysbiosis, food intolerances, low digestive enzyme production, or intestinal permeability — we work to restore balance and relieve symptoms long term.
Everyone is different, but patients we work with begin to notice positive changes within 2–6 weeks when following a tailored nutrition and lifestyle plan consistently. More complex or chronic cases may take 3–6 months or longer to achieve full symptom resolution, especially if there are deeper underlying imbalances. The 3-appointment programme (or successive follow-ups) is designed to give us the time needed to adjust your plan for sustained results.
Probably, I generally wouldn’t recommend a significant / restrictive dietary change or a supplement programme without testing – I use a “test don’t guess” approach. Functional or diagnostic tests can offer valuable insights into gut microbiome composition, intestinal permeability, food sensitivities, stool markers, or digestive enzyme levels. Therefore, I may recommend specific tests where they help clarify root causes, but we always balance the cost and benefit of testing so you only do what’s needed and useful. Testing is optional; we can also proceed with a trial of evidence-based diet & lifestyle changes.
Not at all. I love food and don’t believe in taking significant food groups (such as gluten and diary) out of your diet unless there is a good justification. The goal is generally to “add the good stuff” and nudge out the food that is neither serving nor benefiting you. There is not going to be rigid restriction, but gradual, sustainable improvement. The plan may start with short-term, achievable adjustments based on your goals. The aim is always to reintegrate variety and flexibility. Over time, many patients we work with regain tolerance to foods they previously avoided. The focus is on restoring digestive health, not limiting your life.
Sustaining results is part of the investment. You’ll learn strategies during your programme to support health digestion, to ensure sustained energy throughout the day by balancing micronutrient as well as managing sleep and other aspects of your lifestyle to support overall wellbeing. You will develop strategies to “get back on track” if things start to go awry. Additionally, you can always return for “tune-up” sessions or short support calls if symptoms start creeping back — just like maintaining any aspect of your health.
